On Tuesday, August 5, 2008, the SCBWI Board of Advisors voted to add a new professional tier to its membership. The new tier called PAL [Published And Listed] denotes the highest level professional track for members of the organization. Members eligible for PAL will have special membership benefits and privileges.

WHO AM I NOT TO?

I looked around the crowded ballroom and wondered if anyone could tell I didn’t belong there. I was surrounded by authors, editors, and agents at my first SCBWI conference, and I knew I was out of my league. There were many unpublished writers as well, but most of them had been at this for years. I had been writing for a laughable seven months.

I enjoyed the workshops and keynote speeches and frantically scribbled notes. I soaked in every drop of advice, but I still felt like a fraud. When my roommate did not recognize a famous author, it was confirmed. We had no business.....
