Joey Welsh
I have always been inspired by art with a sense of humor. As a child, I dreamed of becoming a cartoonist and that motivated me to begin teaching myself how to draw. My youth was spent devouring the works of children’s book author & illustrator, Richard Scarry, and cartoonist, Gary Larson. I was fascinated by their ability to pack so much story and humor into single panel of art. It became the inspiration for the artist/author that I am today. My goal is to achieve those same qualities in my work.
Joey Welsh has written and illustrated two children’s books, The Gekkleberry Tree and To See the Sea. The latter received an Arizona Book Award in 2010 for Best Children’s book in the fiction category.
